Trojan 50 Box Set – The CDs

Due for release on 29 June, the deluxe Trojan Story box set contains a selection of items on a variety of formats and over the coming weeks we’ll be highlighting each of these in detail.

To kick things off, we examine the themes and contents of the two 3CD sets, each of which include numerous unreleased recordings plus tracks unavailable on any format since their original release.

CD Mix 1, opens with a disc highlights a mix of hits not featured on the vinyl its in the box, plus rarities and oddities from the initial period in Trojan’s history: 1968 to 1975.

CD 2 picks up the story, demonstrating the growing influence of roots, dub and lovers rock during the latter half of the 1970s.

The final CD concentrates on the period that saw roots giving way to original dancehall and the development of digital reggae.

CD 1 of the second CD Mix specifically focuses on early hidden gems from the vaults, with most of the 25 tracks previously unissued and almost all making their digital debut.

The second disc in the pack showcases the 25 most significant subsidiary labels that were launched by Trojan during its early years.

And finally, CD3 highlights the leading artists and producers who contributed to Trojan’s success in the Sixties and Seventies.
