Super Ape Revisited

Published By: Laurence Date: November, 23 2012 Genre: Reggae

By 1976, Lee 'Scratch' Perry was entering his most creative and imaginative phase as a creator of music. Ensconced at the now fabled Black Ark studio, he had begun producing a body of work that is now widely regarded as the high point in Jamaica's rich musical history.

Arguably his finest album from this time was a multi-textured instrumental/Dub set entitled 'Scratch The Super Ape', which subsequently saw issue on Chris Blackwell's Island concern in the UK as simply 'Super Ape'. The popularity of this seminal collection led to the similarly constructed 'Return Of The Super Ape', released in Jamaica the following year.

Now both of these essential long players are finally united on this 2CD set, which is further enhanced by a number of relevant bonus recordings from the period.

Re-packaged in its original artwork, this is an essential buy for all Lee 'Scratch' Perry fans and those wishing to hear two of the most celebrated Reggae albums in the history of Jamaican music. To order your copy, simply click here.

This has all the hallmarks of a shameless rip off. As Mick Sleeper pointed out this material was issued five years ago:are these exactly the same versions as the above mentioned Apeology ?, has any remastering been done? These works deserve better treatment. Shame on you Trojan Records.

Well I think it's worth the price for the Party Time and Come Along on their own.
    Bless up Trojan.

Didn't you already do this in 2007 with Apeology? That collection contained the JA mix of Super Ape, Return Of The Super Ape, and some bonus tracks. Don't know how songs like "Big Pussy Sally" and "Party Time" can be considered "relevant bonus recordings from the period." I think you need to try a little harder on the when curating these collections, Trojan.
