Lloyd Charmers Boss Reggae 7" To See Issue May 9th

Published By: Administrator Date: May, 04 2011 Genre: Reggae

Late in 1969, Reggae was taking the UK music industry by storm, with competition between the country's rival West Indian music companies, Trojan and Pama, leading to the demand for top quality Jamaican recordings hitting an all time high. Among those whose work was most keenly sought-after was Lloyd 'Charmers' Tyrell.

Tyrell, who had initially made his name earlier in the decade as half of the vocal duo, the Charmers, was by this time fast becoming established as one of Jamaica's leading independent operators, having released a series of best-selling 45s on his recently formed Splash imprint.

Pama initially issued his recordings on imprints such as Nu Beat, Gas and Camel, while Trojan released equally strong material on their Songbird, Duke and, later, Explosion imprints. Due for release on the latter were a Boss Reggae track entitled 'Brixton', later renamed 'Soul Of England', and a superior organ-led piece entitled 'The Premesis' (aka 'Big Five'), both of which featured the producer backed by the legendary Hippy Boys quartet of Alva Lewis (guitar), Glen Adams (keyboards) and future Wailers, Aston 'Family Man' Barrett (bass) and his brother, Carlton (drums).

Both of these ultra-rare, long lost tracks feature on the latest Trojan 7" that sees issue on the much neglected Explosion imprint that had remained inactive since early 1974.

Pressed on the finest quality heavyweight vinyl, the record goes will be exclusively available via the Trojan store from May 9th, with only 400 copies available to buyers on a strictly first-come, first serve basis, so make sure to get your orders in quick!
