Welcome to the Trojan Records official website and forums
One the great mysteries for collectors of vintage Trojan albums is the identity of those featured on the covers. Now, thanks to former Trojan employee, Rob Bell, who worked for the company from its beginnings in 1968 through to 1972, we can reveal the names of those who appear on the iconic Harry J All Stars album from 1969. In Rob’s own words:
‘Bertilia whose second name I forget (I knew her as Tilly)… was Graham Walker‘s secretary at Trojan, and she is the girl on the cover of ‘Liquidator’, the Harry J album on Trojan. The guy is Henry Glasgow, he did a bunch of odd jobs around Music House and did work for David Betteridge and Lee Gopthal.’
Tilly’s employment at Trojan also explains why the company re-titled the Harry J All Stars instrumental cut of Bob Andy’s 1970 classic ‘You Don’t Know’ from its original Jamaican name, ‘Mellow Mood’ to that of her nick-name.
There’ll be more fascinating recollections from Rob in the very near future, so keep watching this space.
