Daddy U Roy – King Of the DJs!
Few individuals have exerted a greater influence on the sound of Jamaican music than Ewart Beckford, the man more commonly known as U Roy.
In the early seventies, the pioneering DJ was a dominant force on the reggae scene, recording a series of classic 45s, primarily for Duke Reid‘s Treasure Isle Records operation.
His unique toasting style provided the blueprint for a host of imitators who rode the DJ wave that followed in his wake, with his work forever changing the sound of Jamaican music.
