Dandy Livingstone

A key figure in the early success of Trojan, Robert Thompson (aka Dandy Livingstone) was involved in almost every creative aspect in making records for the company.

After making his recording debut in 1964, he went on to become one of the UK‘s best-loved West Indian music makers, cutting a series of popular discs, including the original version of ’Rudie A Message To You‘. In 1968 he was a key figure in the birth of Trojan, producing and performing on its initial 45 and LP releases before being granted his own Downtown imprint later that year.

The following year, Dandy’s arrangement of Tony Tribe‘s ’Red Red Wine‘ gave Trojan one of its earliest hits and in the early seventies, he finally made his mark on the national pop listings as an artist with ’Suzanne Beware Of The Devil‘, ’Think About That‘ and ’Big City‘.
